What is HydroSeeding Grass?

Category: FAQ / View All: Hydroseed FAQ

It's Just Grass!

  • Grass is a plant that grows from a tiny seed.
  • It grows in dirt/soil/mulch
  • Grass typically likes a lot of water and sunshine
  • Lawns die from:
    • Not Enough Water (need to setup irrigation)
    • Too Much Water (need to setup drainage)
    • Too Much Shade
    • (some other things like nutrients and moss but that is much less likely.)

Like most plant seeds, they prefer to be wholly surrounded by wet/moist soil in order to grow.

What does that mean?

If you go toss some seeds on top of your dirt yard, no-matter how much you water, less than 5% will grow.

You would need to:

  1. Spread seeds
  2. Compact with a roller/weight
  3. Add more soil or other moisture layer
  4. Water thoroughly

Thats a lot of work!

What is different about hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a streamlined process:

  • Large truck water tank holds a thick mixture of water, seed, and mulch
  • Tank often has other ingredients including green dye and fertilizer.
  • Truck uses an industrial power sprayer to spread the seed mixture
  • Seed Mixture is designed to establish root/vegetation because it has been hydrated and is surrounded when it settles onto the ground
